This is a great article. I do a job training program at my church. I may want you to come and speak one month. Please let me know if this is feasible. Auntie

Appreciate the thoughts. I like the mention of realistic goals. And being present. The manager must be engaged to have engaged employees. Really what is being talked about is the relationship.

Have an amazing year.

Thank you for your comment, George. Organizations should do their best to help temporary and permanent workers succeed at their jobs. Getting these workers up to speed with company culture and policies is also critical.

Thank you for your comment, Teresa. The broader definition of "disability" under the ADAAA does give employers greater responsibility for accommodating their employees. Maybe in the future the definition will be more narrow.

Another reason why good jobs can't be created in this country. The FMLA/ADA burden on employers could only be created by something as effed up as the federal government. God forbid someone take a excedrin and suck it up anymore, because all of sudden it's a migraine or I might have something fatal so I need time off (months even!) for tests. Sinus infections are now 'life threatening' problems that require FLMA excuses to leave work for and at any given time. All the while the other employees are disgusted, tired (because there's no money to replace the people at home playing on facebook) and are tired of watching their boss become a spineless wuss.

Good stuff here on onboarding temporary workers. The basics of acquiring, accommodating, assimilating and accelerating new employees that we discuss in our book "Onboarding" always apply. What's different at the different levels in an organization is how those basics are applied. At the most senior levels, organizations need to take more time acquiring, do a more thorough job assimilating, and invest heavily in accelerating progress over time. With seasonal temporary workers it makes sense to condense the steps. But it never makes sense to skip any steps.
